Sign Of The Times of the Day: A 59-year-old North Carolina man with several serious medical problems, including an undiagnosed growth, informed the teller at an RBC Bank in Gastonia that he was committing an unarmed robbery. His demands: 1 dollar and three years in prison.

James Verone told Charlotte’s WCNC-TV that he was unemployed and broke, and thought his only option was to go to jail where he would receive health care and have a roof over his head. “I’m sort of a logical person and that was my logic,” he told the station.

Unfortunately for Verone, the sum of money he requested from the teller was not enough to constitute a bank robbery, and the amount of jail time he faces is considerably less than he would have liked.

Kinetic Typography Treatment of the Day: Jacob Gilbreath sets Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show farewell speech (AKA the “please do not be cynical” speech) to vintage-style kinetic typography.

Gilbreath says:

The combination of vintage styled type layouts and the sleek 3d look achieved in Cinema 4D allow the wall to seem both old and new. This contrast emphasizes time and creates a sturdy and timeless object which is the perfect metaphor for Conan O’Brien.

Quote

I can’t appeal to everybody,
If I appealed to everybody I would be a much different performer and I can’t do it
You know why? because
I can only do what the fuck I do. I’m not here making balloon animals
I’m not writing poetry
I’m not making big hollywood movies
I’m in my garage talking about myself and writing jokes about they way I think
that’s all I could do.
Maybe I could do those other things?
but for me the journey has always been to arrive at me
That is a profoundly difficult journey.
It is so easy when you are a creative person for someone to undermine you just by instilling a little doubt in what you do. And who the fuck are they anyway? Seriously. We’re all so goddamn hyper sensitive, myself included. One idiot says one thing that throws me into doubt about something I’m doing or something I’ve said or something I’m involved with. And I’m like holy shit maybe I’m right
My fucking soul just feeds on the opportunity to fester in self doubt. I’m fucking done with it. I’m too old for that shit. How many more years do I have left to fester about that shit? All this stuff, I seem to be getting it
It’s only taken me 45 yrs. to get it ~ Marc Maron

The people I met and the places I’ve been
All will make me the man I so proudly am
But I wanna know one thing
When did I become a ghost?

I’m mostly confused about the world I live in
They think that I’m lonely, well I probably am
One thing that still gets me
When did I become a ghost?

Timeless song.  Maynard and APC did a good job. I read that John’s mother abandoned him as a child.  Icons can have shady pasts just like anybody. John Lennon and I share similar beginnings.
